Women in Science at Rice, established in August 2021, is an organization that aims to promote interest and the pursuit of science among girls in the Houston community. With approximately 30% of scientific professionals being women, a lack of support or feeling of isolation can discourage future women from advancing a career in science. Moreover, as a result, most young girls lack female role models in science and are thus less likely to pursue these fields.
Our organization aims to foster girls’ interests in science by providing female role models as well as a safe, exciting space for girls to develop positive associations with their scientific interests and thus continue developing their passions in the future. We aim to achieve this via networking events, speaker panels, and educational outreach programs. Visit our ‘projects’ section to learn more about what we are doing!
